Surugamachi no Okonomiyakiya in Nara

It was as good as the other folk said. I blew in by myself without a clue how anything worked and the awesome chick-lady was very friendly, explained how it worked, and even gave me a taste of the cold sake after I finally decided I'd try the hot one. A good little operation... By the way, the bike hire shop next door is great too.

Fantastic place! The food is amazing and the staff was very friendly! It was raining and I did not bring umbrella. They gave me an umbrella and did not ask me to return it (I return it the next day).

I visited this Okonomiyaki restaurant put together with my girlfriend after a long day in Nara. It was the day of their two year anniversary.The Okonomiyaki was awesome and delicious. It is served on a hot plate in your table - just delicious.English menu available, the owner speaks English.I definitely do recommend this restaurant!

Amazing! We came to try Okonomiyaki and were blown away by this humble restaurant and just how delicious it was. Our host was very gracious and the food was simply stunning. The incredible high score on Google reviews is well deserved. You won't believe what a bargain it is at under $10/plate.

Ran by an awesome woman all by herself! Excellent menu with full english translation. Lots of options for both meat and vegetarians. Incredibly cheap price for a very filling meal with an atmosphere similar to going around to Japanese house for dinner. Could eat here all the time! We need okonomiyaki in England!

One of the best okonomiyaki that I have tasted during my stay in Japan, and now I am still missing it! Small and unpretentious shop in a quiet street, the lady serving us was super friendly and chatty! The okonomiyaki here also come with generous amount of ingredients, and love the seaweed powder ghat that they provided! Highly highly recommended this if you are around the area!

Amazing little place with the best Okonomiyaki... worth coming to Nara just to eat here :-) Vegetarian options, noodles and other dishes also available with a hot plate for each table so the flavour keeps on getting better. Cannot recommend enough!

Fabulous! Great experience with dish-in table-finished okonomiyakis. A whole variety of okonomiyakis including pork, squid and shrimps, but be careful, noodles are not included, you have to order them as a topping.The place is quite small but it doesn’t matter because of the food and the friendly owner.

Amazing food. Vegetarian options and very cheap! The owner was super sweet and had us mark on the map where we came from. The food was incredible. I ordered a veggie cabbage ‘pancake’ with cheese on top. The owner made sure I knew which toppings were meat based so I could avoid them. Very unique experience. A little hot in the restaurant due to table heat but worth it! A must visit in nara japan!

After reading the reviews for this place we decided to give it a try.The host was very welcoming and helpful, she explained to us all kind of japanese tastes ans food that we didn't know. The rood was super delicious!!! We had okunomiyaki and it was a delight !!!!I highly recommend it!Plus there is a world map on a wall where you can mark your country of origin with a sticker!

If you are staying in Nara and want to try okonomiyaki ("Japanese pizza")you must go here. The service was great, the staff were so friendly and great with us despite the fact we speak no Japanese. The atmosphere was fun, there were local people as well as other travellers eating, and there is a lot to choose from on the menu. It was a very authentic experience and we are very glad that we stopped by! Thank you!

A hidden gem! This small restaurant runned by a charming woman was a lovely discovery for us. Really tasty Okonomiyakis after spending the morning walking through Nara’s park.

We ate here on a recent trip to Japan. Okonomiyakiya is one of our favourite Japanese meals so we ate it a lot in Tokyo, Nara, Hiroshima and Kyoto. Unfortunately for us this was the second part of our trip and the BEST Okonomiyakiya we had. I think part of that was the hot plate is hot enough to sizzle the meat and give it some beautiful flavours. Everything else in Hiroshima and Kyoto did not compare and we longed to go back to Surugamachi no Okonomiyakiya. The lovely lady has good English, is very welcoming and English menus. Thank you for your hospitality and delicious meal.
